How to run a computer in safe mode

The reason you would run a computer in safe mode is because, say for instance your computer caught a virus, the best way to get rid of it from causing any further damage is to run your computer in safe mode.  To do this, open the start menu and to the bottom of the window where it says “search programs and files” type in msconfig and the program should come up in the box above.  Click on msconfig to open it.  Once the window is open you should see five tabs to the top of the dialog box.  Click on the boot tab.  Once opened in the boot options you are going to see safe boot, click on it.  Apply the settings and the wizard will ask you to restart your computer.  Once your computer is restarted the next time it boots will be in safe mode.  Locate your virus and delete it.  To undo these settings you would repeat the same steps, but when you click on the boot tab uncheck the box that says safe boot and apply the settings.  After that your computer should boot to normal.
